Abode is bringing HomeKit to its do-it-all smart home hub

Abode, not to be confused with Adobe, today takes the wheels of his new second generation smart home gateway. The Gen 2 device serves as a central hub between all your Z-Wave Plus, Zigbee and abodeRF devices, and is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Nest, Ecobee, LifX, Philips Hue and IFTTT. In addition, it will ‘soon’ support HomeKit and Siri, which is an extraordinary rarity for these do-it-all ports.

On paper then it is the smart home hub you want to buy if you want to remain as flexible as possible without the inclusion of the ecosystem. HomeKit integration will be delivered through a future firmware update for both Gen 1 and Gen 2 gateways.

‘On the HomeKit front, Abode 100 percent is committed to bringing the functionality to users across our entire ecosystem of products and plans to announce additional news soon,’ Abode CEO Chris Carney said in a press release.

The Gen 2 gateway features a built-in 93db + siren, 4G data backup (which requires a monthly plan), and a battery that will hold the port and your home security will run for several hours if power is cut be. The company also offers a non-contract plan that includes three days’ timeline and media storage for free. Paid plan costs $ 10 / mth or $ 30 / mth for longer timelines, more media, professional monitoring and cellular backup.
